We are delighted to announce that as of September 1, 2026, Prof. Dr. Julia Backmann will become a new Professor and Co-Director at the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management (IFPM-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen.
Julia Backmann currently heads the Chair for Transformation of the World of Work at the University of Münster and is Co-Director of the Research Center for Business Transformation in Times of Radical Change. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor in Management at University College Dublin (2019–2022) and at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (2014–2018).
Her work focuses on leadership and collaboration in challenging contexts as well as the transformation of organizations and work environments. She combines current questions in leadership and organizational research with high societal and practical relevance. Her research examines, among other things, how companies remain adaptable, how AI-based systems change collaboration, leadership, and decision-making processes, and what opportunities and challenges new work models such as the four-day week, mobile work, or Digital Nomadism bring.
