What is Top Job?

Each year, the TOP JOB award recognizes the best employers among medium-sized businesses. Since 2008, Heike Bruch has served as the scientific director of the competition.

What is behind Top Job?

TOP JOB is characterized by the application of strict scientific principles within the framework of the competition. For this purpose, the employee survey constitutes an essential component. By surveying employees, managing directors, and HR managers, various perspectives within the company are considered and brought together. Through the input-output analysis, it is determined what effect the HR instruments have and how employees perceive them.

From this analysis, a valuable and meaningful benchmarking report is created for each company. This report compares the company’s values with benchmarks and best practice values from companies of the same size class or industry. In this way, the employer attractiveness of one’s own company can be assessed against competitors.

From this connection, recommendations for action for the company are derived for each category of the benchmarking report. This allows strengths, but also important areas for action to be identified. The results report includes topics such as culture, communication, leadership, motivation, family orientation and organisational energy.

Location analysis for companies

We have developed tools that enable you to carry out a location analysis on «New Work» and measure the energy in your company. To what extent are you in the new world of work? The tools provide you with a meaningful basis for the positive further development of your corporate culture and energy.

To enable companies to make a well-founded assessment of their maturity level in the area of new forms of work, the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St.Gallen has developed the New Work & Culture Check. The basis: a comprehensive analysis of survey data from approximately 20,000 employees from almost 100 companies.

The check offers companies a precise current status assessment: Where do they stand today regarding New Work – and how well are they prepared for the world of work tomorrow?

Central aspects of modern working methods are recorded in the following areas:

  • Virtual Work
  • Digital Processes
  • Individualized Work Models

Furthermore, the New Work & Culture Check evaluates how strongly companies are positioned in the most important success factors of the new world of work:

  • Leadership & Corporate Culture
  • Freedom & Personal Responsibility
  • Promotion of Relevant Competencies
  • Role Model Function of Top Management

The check thus offers not only orientation – but also concrete impulses for successfully setting the course towards the modern world of work of the future.

The Organizational Energy Survey records how strong the various possible energy states are in the company or in individual areas. It also shows the characteristics of the energy drivers, i.e. the levers with which you can influence the energy and performance of the organisation. Soft success factors, such as leadership quality, strategic orientation, commitment and teamwork, become benchmarkable. Managers receive tangible clues for optimising the potential of their areas or teams. If there is interest, differentiated analyses are carried out in which, for example, energy profiles of internal and external services or of different country organisations, departments or hierarchical levels are compared

Based on the results of the study, strategies can be developed with which the company can specifically increase, align, or maintain its energy. The success of implementation can be verified or demonstrated by a renewed measurement.
